updates

New things happened in the shops this week. Of corse you can catch up on my flickr page: Naomis_illu. But in case you haven't:

Cross stitch portraits of Queen Victoria and her husband Albert on The Time is Now.

Also new brooches.

And I've uploaded new etchings to both shops:

The shops are closing for an unknown length of time in 2 weeks. Moving cities and all. I encourage people to not hold off and purchase now because I don't know when I'll be able to reopen.

Shops update

I finally updated The Antlered Kitsune. I've added a print of a page and 2 papercuts from my book The Wondrous Stag.

I've also uploaded 2 new etchings to The Time Is Now. I'll be moving house in a month so I have to start de-cluttering my studio.

etsy buy: therunnybunny

My beautiful Deer Gentleman porcelain figurine from therunnybunny arrived. Sadly it broke a little after 2 days (figures, with my track record) but I glued it back together. Gorgeous, gorgeous work!

I'm also giving away old CDs and selling a book design book. Take a look if you're looking for a present.

This blog has two followers now... Sadly I never update as often as I'd like. I tend to favor my LJ account, which is f-locked, but lurkers can have a look anyways (just don't judge me for the fandom fun). ns_tulkas on livejournal.

One of my favorite illustrators, Jen Corace has limited edition prints for sale at the Art Star Gallery online shop: Too Soon | Improper Escort | Awkward In Any Situation. Phenomenal, as usual. Sadly I just spent an obscene amount of money on beautiful-other-things and cannot afford them. One day I'll either have that kind of money to invest in beautiful things (shiny things, I want those things!) or I'll be well-known enough to do swaps. I'm open for swaps.

Also, my shop has been updated, in case you haven't noticed. I listed some brooches and a handmade papercut cover sketchbook. I doubt I'll have time to list new items any time soon unless people ask for something directly. Hopefully all my offline hard work will pay off. Just two more months to go.

Flickr: Owen Gatley Illustration

An ingenious idea, a beautiful book.

An abstract retelling of the fairy tale.

He also made a wonderful pop-up book, which can be seen on his Flickr page.

Etsy & Flickr rec: Joanna Rutter

I'm yet to hold long enough onto my savings to afford one of her wonderful creations - but boy they are wonderful! She makes these earrings that make me wish I had my ears pierced. It's that time of year again, and I want to buy my mom something from her shop. It just looks so... happy! What do you think?

I made these brooches today... They were fun to make. In case you're wondering about the paper cut used as the background... that's part of a book I'm working on.

Artist rec: Fumi Nakamura

I've been following Fumi Nakamura (aka mini mouse) for years now. Now when I'm being swept under by a daunting project with overwhelming workload & impossible deadlines (clearly I've bitten way more than I can chew. What was I thinking?!) I find myself going over her work to find inspiration and calm. She makes it seem so effortless.

Lenka and James

I first heard of Lenka through James Gulliver Hancock's site. His imagery caught my eye, he's SO envy-worthy talented, and I can't help but smile when i look at his colorful work.
His visual branding for Lenka captivated me and since I heard one of her songs on TV I can't think of a better marriage of talents. Truly an awesome moment in commercial illustration.
